Luxury Alcohol Rehab: A Private, Science-Driven Path Out of Alcohol Addiction
If you are reading this page, someone you love — or you yourself — is fighting alcohol. So before anything else, one honest sentence: this is not hopeless, you are not broken beyond repair, and the science of recovery has advanced more in the last ten years than in the previous fifty.
This page will show you that science — with citations you can check yourself — and explain how Holistic Sanctuary’s approach to alcohol recovery differs, structurally and completely, from the rehab industry you may have already tried.

First, A Correction Sixteen Years in the Making
You may find older pages and articles describing Holistic Sanctuary as a California alcohol rehab. Here is the truth, plainly: our story began in Los Angeles, but sixteen years ago we moved everything to Mexico — deliberately. Mexico is where our licensed, physician-supervised facilities operate today, on the oceanfront, and Mexico is what makes our protocol legally possible: the sacred plant medicines at the center of our method cannot be administered in the United States.
We serve guests from everywhere: California, New York, Florida, and every other U.S. state, alongside guests from Europe, the Middle East, Russia, China, and beyond. Wherever you are flying from, you are flying to the same place — a private suite on the Caribbean coast, a dedicated one-to-one clinical team, and a protocol built for you alone.

Why the Rehab You Already Tried Didn’t Work
Here is a statistic the conventional treatment industry rarely leads with: relapse rates for substance use disorders run 40 to 60 percent — comparable to relapse in other chronic conditions like hypertension and asthma.1 That number is not a verdict on you. It is a verdict on a model.
The standard model — group therapy, a 12-step curriculum, a rotating cast of counselors, and increasingly, maintenance medication — was designed to manage a disease, not repair the damage underneath it. Years of heavy alcohol use physically change the brain: gray matter shrinks, neurotransmitter systems dysregulate, mitochondria falter, and the body’s core repair chemistry gets depleted. You cannot talk-therapy your way out of physiological damage. And you cannot heal it in a group circle, on somebody else’s schedule, while identifying as diseased for life.
We do none of that. No groups. No 12 steps. No maintenance medications. Every hour of your program — more than 150 hours per month — is delivered privately, one-to-one. The facility is 10,000 square feet and takes three to five clients at a time on the Gold Package, and a single client on the Platinum Package. What fills those hours is where the science comes in.
The Science: What Published Research Says About Plant Medicine and Alcohol
We hold ourselves to one rule on this website: facts with citations, never claims without them. Here is what the peer-reviewed literature actually shows about the medicines at the center of the Pouyan Method™ — including, honestly, where the evidence is established and where it is still emerging.

Psilocybin: The Landmark Alcohol Trial
In 2022, researchers at NYU published a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in JAMA Psychiatry — the gold standard of clinical evidence — testing psilocybin-assisted therapy specifically for alcohol use disorder. The results were remarkable: participants receiving psilocybin reduced their heavy drinking days by 83% over 32 weeks, versus 51% for placebo, and nearly half of the psilocybin group stopped drinking entirely by the end of the trial — double the rate of the control group.2 This built on an earlier proof-of-concept study showing significant reductions in drinking after psilocybin sessions.3
This is not fringe science. This is a randomized controlled trial, in one of medicine’s most respected journals, testing the exact category of treatment we have delivered privately for over a decade.

Ibogaine: A Documented Anti-Alcohol Mechanism
Ibogaine is best known for interrupting opioid withdrawal, but its relevance to alcohol has a specific, published scientific basis. Research in The Journal of Neuroscience demonstrated that ibogaine increases expression of GDNF — glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor — in the brain’s reward circuitry, and that this GDNF surge directly reduced alcohol consumption in validated laboratory models.4 GDNF is one of the brain’s own repair and protection molecules; ibogaine appears to switch it on precisely where alcohol does its damage.
In humans, ibogaine’s controlled-trial evidence centers on opioid dependence — including a twelve-month follow-up study documenting sustained reductions in use5 — while its application to alcohol rests on this mechanism research plus observational experience. We tell you that plainly, because that is what the evidence currently is. We also tell you plainly that ibogaine carries a real, documented cardiac risk, which is exactly why every ibogaine ceremony here follows EKG screening, continuous monitoring, and physician supervision.

Ayahuasca: Observational Evidence for Problem Drinking
Ayahuasca’s alcohol evidence comes from observational research. A Canadian study of ayahuasca-assisted therapy in a rural community documented significant reductions in alcohol and cocaine use following the program.6 A separate study comparing long-term ceremonial ayahuasca users against matched controls found substantially lower rates of alcohol use disorders among the ayahuasca group.7 Observational studies are not randomized trials, and we label them accordingly — but they are consistent, published, and they align with what we have observed across more than 5,000 supervised ceremonies: the deep emotional processing ayahuasca enables reaches the trauma and grief that so often sit underneath the drinking.
The $3.8 Billion Signal
If you want one data point for where all of this is heading: in July 2026, Eli Lilly — the company that built the Prozac era — agreed to acquire AtaiBeckley for up to $3.8 billion, primarily for a synthetic 5-MeO-DMT nasal spray in late-stage trials for treatment-resistant depression.8 The most conservative institutions in medicine do not spend billions on compounds they consider fringe. They spend it on what they believe is the future. We have been working with that future, under medical supervision, for fifteen years.
Rebuilding the Alcohol-Damaged Brain
Alcohol recovery is not only about stopping drinking. It is about repairing what drinking broke. This is the half of recovery the conventional industry barely addresses — and the half where our protocol concentrates its firepower.
Start with hope, because the science provides it: longitudinal MRI research has shown that the brain shrinkage caused by chronic alcohol use partially reverses with sustained abstinence — brain volume measurably recovers when the drinking stops and the body is supported.9 The brain wants to heal. Our job is to give it every tool.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Daily HBOT sessions saturate tissue with oxygen at levels unreachable through normal breathing. For brain recovery specifically, the published evidence base includes a randomized prospective trial showing HBOT improved cognitive function and quality of life in patients with persistent post-concussion brain injury — even years after the original injury10 — and a trial in older adults showing improved cognitive performance and cerebral blood flow.11 A separate prospective trial found sixty HBOT sessions increased telomere length in immune cells by more than 20% while clearing senescent cells12 — a striking finding in cellular aging research. Direct trials of HBOT in alcohol-related brain injury specifically are still early, and we say so; what the existing brain-injury trials establish is that oxygen under pressure measurably supports the injured brain’s recovery — and an alcohol-injured brain is an injured brain.

NAD+ and the Brain Repair IV Protocol
Here is a piece of biochemistry every drinker deserves to know: metabolizing alcohol directly consumes NAD+, the coenzyme at the center of cellular energy production and DNA repair. Every drink converts NAD+ to NADH as the liver processes ethanol — chronic drinking leaves the body’s NAD+ economy chronically depleted.13 This is not alternative medicine; it is textbook alcohol metabolism.
Restoring NAD+ intravenously in recovering drinkers has a clinical history reaching back to 1961, when physicians first published on IV NAD (then called DPN) for alcohol and drug dependence.14 Modern randomized trials of IV NAD+ for withdrawal are still lacking, and we tell you that honestly. What we can tell you is what we have refined over more than twelve years: our proprietary Brain Repair IV protocol pairs NAD+ with neuropeptides, amino acid precursors, vitamins, and minerals — the raw materials of neurotransmitter production — administered daily, under medical supervision, calibrated to your bloodwork. Guests consistently report what the biochemistry predicts: cravings quiet down when the depleted systems refill.

Mitochondria, Heat, and Deep Detoxification
Chronic alcohol damages mitochondria — the cellular engines — and recovery means restoring them. Our protocol layers several tools here. Daily infrared sauna sessions build on some of the most compelling longevity data in preventive medicine: large Finnish cohort studies published in JAMA Internal Medicine found frequent sauna use associated with dramatically lower cardiovascular and all-cause mortality,15 with follow-up research linking regular sauna use to reduced dementia risk.16 Structured daily cardio — non-negotiable, one hour, calibrated to your condition — is among the best-documented drivers of mitochondrial biogenesis in existence. And our cleansing protocols — colonics, liver-support and parasite-cleanse regimens, coffee enemas, Dead Sea salt baths — support the elimination pathways doing the heavy lifting of detoxification. We present these traditional protocols for what they are: longstanding components of our detoxification system, delivered safely, alongside the therapies above.

Medical Detox, In-House, Without the Suffering
Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous — in heavy, long-term drinkers it can be life-threatening — which is why detox here is a medical process, in-house, from day one. You are medically cleared by our Medical Director, Dr. Jose A. Jimenez, MD, before arrival. Nursing cover is continuous, running 24 hours a day across a morning shift, an evening shift and two to three night shifts, with at least four nurses on duty across a 24-hour period. Your taper is medically supervised throughout — gradual, never abrupt, never cold-turkey — while the Brain Repair IV, HBOT, nutrition, and bodywork begin immediately, so your body is being rebuilt at the same time it is letting go. Guests who arrive on benzodiazepines or other prescriptions are tapered with the same care. There is no white-knuckling here, and no reward for suffering. Comfort is a clinical strategy: a body out of crisis heals faster.

What Your Days Actually Look Like
The Pouyan Method fills four to twelve weeks — never a 7-day quick fix, because the biology of brain repair does not operate on a one-week timeline. A typical day: morning cardio and beachfront yoga; a supervised functional-medicine session — HBOT, Brain Repair IV, NAD+, or infrared and red-light work, rotated per your individualized plan; chef-prepared organic meals built around cold-pressed juices, wheatgrass, and superfoods that reload the micronutrients alcohol strips; afternoon massage or Reiki energy work; evening integration and preparation for the plant-medicine ceremonies sequenced into your protocol — each one private, one-to-one, medically screened and supervised. Every element, every day, delivered one-on-one.
What We Will Not Promise You
We built this page on facts, so let us finish the same way. We cannot promise a cure — no honest clinic can, and the word “cure” does not appear in our vocabulary. We cannot claim a 100% success rate, and we do not guarantee outcomes; people are not statistics, and results vary. Nothing we do has been evaluated by the FDA, and we do not operate in the United States. We cannot fix everyone. What we can promise is narrower and real: the most comprehensive protocol we know how to build, grounded in the published science cited on this page, delivered privately by a licensed medical team that has run more than 5,000 supervised ceremonies over fifteen years without a single serious incident in the facility’s record — for people who have decided that managing their drinking forever is not the same as healing.
If that is the decision you are ready to make, we are ready to talk. Every conversation is private, judgment-free, and answered by a real person.
