Causes of Ibogaine Deaths and How to Avoid Them
Ibogaine, a psychoactive alkaloid derived from the African shrub Tabernanthe iboga, has garnered attention for its potential in treating addiction. However, its administration is not without risks, particularly when administered without proper preparation. Several clinics have reported fatalities associated with ibogaine treatment, often linked to inadequate patient preparation and medical oversight.
Ibogaine therapy is becoming increasingly popular in the treatment of PTSD, Depression, Alcohol addiction and much more. This therapy has been proven safe and effective in treating mental health and substance abuse disorder. However, ibogaine deaths have also been reported.
The deaths have been caused by the unsafe use of ibogaine, the patients have not been on a strict diet and the lack of knowledge when it comes to why people have issues. At The Holistic Sanctuary we discovered why the cardiac arrests occur and have created a protocol can prevent it. This is because we have Ibogaine treatment down to a science. Some deaths are due to poor medication monitoring, high levels of drugs in the system, too much ibogaine, not enough close monitoring, and diet preparation of ibogaine. While other deaths are as a result of using ibogaine without constant medical supervision.
BEST IBOGAINE LUXURY CLINIC
A simple EKG and blood test will not protect you. Most EKGs can miss underlying health issues that can occur with ibogaine. Ibogaine stops the bodies ability to utilize metabolize and synthesize important elements for the bodies absorption in the state of Homeostasis . We won’t go too much in details this is all sensitive and classified proprietary information, but we will say, we found out why people die and this is main reason we don’t have deaths at The Holistic Sanctuary.

Reported Ibogaine-Related Fatalities:
- Minds Alive Wellness Centre, Durban, South Africa (2017): In November 2017, Canadian citizen Milos Martinovic sought treatment for his addiction to opiates and benzodiazepines at the Minds Alive Wellness Centre in Durban, operated by dentist Anwar Mohamed Jeewa. Despite Jeewa’s awareness that ibogaine should not be used to treat benzodiazepine addiction, he administered the substance to Martinovic, who was also self-medicating with Xanax. Martinovic suffered a cardiac arrest and died during the treatment. Jeewa was later convicted of culpable homicide and other charges related to the unauthorized administration of ibogaine.
- Beond Ibogaine Clinic, Cancún, Mexico (2022): In April 2022, a 49-year-old American named David sought treatment for his substance dependency at Beond, an ibogaine clinic in Cancún. Despite undergoing preparatory procedures, David tragically passed away two days after his ibogaine session, following a “booster” dose. The exact cause of death was not conclusively established, though it was suggested he suffered a heart attack.
- Soul Centro Retreat, Costa Rica (2024): In August 2024, 40-year-old Lauren Levis attended an iboga retreat at Soul Centro in Costa Rica. During the first ceremony, she exhibited severe symptoms, including profuse sweating and agitation. Despite attempts to stabilize her condition, Lauren suffered a heart attack and passed away. The retreat faced criticism for delayed emergency response and inadequate medical supervision.
The Importance of Comprehensive Preparation:
Administering ibogaine without thorough patient preparation can lead to severe adverse effects, including cardiac complications. Proper preparation involves detoxification, medical evaluations, and psychological readiness to handle the intense experience induced by ibogaine. Neglecting these steps increases the risk of complications and diminishes the potential therapeutic benefits of the treatment.
